High Drama in the Stawplatz Derby 🙊
The VIs took a big step towards the Oberliga A title with a 2-3 win against Paulaner Wieden. In the Reserves match that followed, a Timo Brinkert header at the death gave the VIs a point that felt like three.

After a goalless first half the Oberliga match came to life when the VIs countered a Paulaner corner. Alex Evans and Moussa Barry exchanged passes before finding Kiyan Valipour out wide who cut inside on his left and found the bottom corner. Little time passed before he was at it again. This time Alex Doggen seizing the ball in midfield before playing him in to finish on his left again. Paulaner struck back almost instantly with a David Kadlez rocket from 25 yards. 2-0 is indeed a dangerous scoreline. Moussa Barry then restored the two goal advantage with Brian McGorrian delivering a perfect through ball for him to round the keeper and slot home. Jakob Hoffert made it a tense final few minutes, but the VIs held on for a precious 3 points.

In the Reserves match Paulaner looked to deal out revenge and went ahead on 22 minutes with Julian Kater pouncing on a defensive pass and slotting home. On 38 minutes Jakob Hoffert got his second of the day when his free kick went under the wall and eluded everyone.
The VIs had to improve for the second half and raised the ante with Jon Haberl-Arkhurst's introduction and a shift to 3-5-2. The Smiling Assassin added to his 'Joker' goals on 75 minutes when Dave Knapper fed him through, giving the VIs a vital lifeline. The game went end to end with Justin Walker making several last ditch tackles that keep the VIs in the game. The VIs thought they had the equaliser on 90 minutes when Will Healy was found by Jaime Resano, but his trademark scoop finish went just centimetres wide. The VIs pushed forward in desperation, throwing everything and everyone into the box, resulting in one final corner. Knapper stood over it as 'keeper Rob Barnett came forward, before he sent in a perfect delivery that found Timo Brinkert's rock solid head, saved a point for the VIs on the stroke of full time, and resulted in limbs, scenes and smiles all around. 🍻
